Wind shield effect of wall on an embankment by means of separation interference method

For facilities and structures built on the seashore, the wind speed at their standing site should be reduced to use well under strong wind. A wall of vertical plate is often used as the wind shield to reduce the wind speed at leeward region of the wall. However, the wind shield effect of wall on the embankment has not been investigated, which was investigated in the present paper by both methods of wind tunnel experiments and computational method of fluid dynamics. As the result, it was made clear for reduction of the wind speed at leeward region of the wall that the windward shape of the embankment was strongly related with the position of the wall on the embankment, and the reduction mechanism of the wind speed was similar to the mechanism of separation interference method. That is, in the case that the separation flow from the windward upper corner of the embankment touches at the tip of the wall and the separation flow from the tip of the wall is controlled so as to prevent the separation from the tip of the wall, the wind speed in the leeward region of the wall is effectively reduced.
