A new set of professional qualifications for transport planning professionals are being developed in the UK. The main aim of the qualification is to raise the profile of transport planning. The qualifications are being developed by the Transport Planning Qualifications Committee set up by the Transport Planning Society and GoSkills. The National Occupational Standards for transport planning provide the basics from which the proposed National Vocational Qualifications NVQ3 and NVQ4 can be built. The new standards have been designed to complement existing National Transportation Qualifications. The Level 3 NVQ provides a clear career development route for technical support staff. The Level 4 NVQ will provide the basis of a route for planners to become incorporated members of relevant professional institutions. The unit titles for NVQ Levels 3 and 4 are listed.
