An Effective Color Distortion and Noise Reduction for Unsharp Masking in LCD Display

Unsharp masking (UM) is a popular image enhancement technique. In general, applying UM to each color component independently can produce color distortion in a color image. In this paper, we propose a novel image enhancement technique exploiting the subpixel addressability of a pixel for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The proposed algorithm reduces the color distortion by using subpixel energy dispersion scheme. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm efficiently removes color distortion and noise of the edges on LCDs.
