The Control of Multiple Constraints Within an Open Architecture Machine Tool Controller

The authors demonstrate the utilization ofa novel control architecture and associated algorithms in the maintenance of multiple constraints arising from machining operations. The control architecture is configured to allow the most severe ofa series of constraints to control the feedrate, and thus duplicates the procedure which would normally be carried out in off-line optimization strategies. The use of the control in the maintenance offorce and chip thickness constraints is analyzed and demonstrated using turning operations as an example.
