A report on the occurrence of a median eye in a partially dicephalic cat

The abnormal appearance of a median eye in a vertebrate usually represents the phenomenon called Cyclopia media. Such an eye is formed by the fusion of two normally Irateral eyes, the left eye representing the left portion ; the right eye, the right portion of the cyclopian structure. The situation in a case of an incompletely dicephalic condition is different. Here the right eye of the left head represents the left portion; and the left eye of the right head the right portion of the composite median eye. Two such cases in the pig have been recorded in the literature by Bishop ('14) and Thuringer ('19). The former mentions the presence of two lenses, otherwise only the external' features are described. Thus the appearance of one kitten born with two faces, among an otherwise normal litter of 6, seemed worthy of study from an anatomical standpoint.
