Thermal force on particles in the transition regime

Abstract An interpolation method is proposed for predicting and correlating thermal forces acting on spherical particles suspended in a rarefied gas. The result obtained is applicable over the entire Knudsen number range from free molecule to continuum conditions, and yields the appropriate limiting expressions in the free molecule and continuum regimes. A comparison was made between the result of the present method and available experimental data, and good agreement was found over a wide range of Knudsen numbers and gas to particle thermal conductivity ratios.
