Application of Ultrasound in Leaching

Ultrasound can be advantageously applied in leaching processes. The cavitation produced by ultrasound, which is responsible for chemical, physical and hydrodynamic effects, is described. Some principles of leaching in presence of ultrasound have been described. The literature available on leaching of lean grade ores and concentrates of copper and zinc in presence of ultrasound has been critically reviewed. The sonication systems and related mechanisms which lead to beneficial effects during leaching have been highlighted.
