Improvised Group Key Management Protocol for SCADA System

SCADA(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System) requires a secure group communication between control centre and remote terminal units. Latency in the communication network cannot be tolerated in group communication of SCADA system. To improvise the security of group communication in SCADA system many different group key management protocols have been proposed which minimizes rekeying, storage overhead, and communication cost. In this paper various security challenges for SCADA system and the various group key communication protocols have been highlighted. In this paper, we are providing a survey on different group key management protocols for securing group communications in SCADA system and proposed an improvised key distribution scheme to optimize or reduce the existing storage and communication overhead without compromising security.
