Cost-efficient approach for impulse decoupled linear direct drives

The so called Impulse Decoupling possesses an outstanding potential to increase the dynamics and accuracy of direct linear drives. However, such systems still require an additional magnetic sensor and extra linear guidance. This paper presents a novel design approach for decoupled drives which necessitates rather minor cost effective modifications. The guidance are substituted by elements that cover guidance and decoupling function and the sensor can be omitted under certain circumstances. In order to evaluate the approach a drive axis is designed and experimentally investigated. A comparison with conventionally designed direct linear drives shows the proof of the concept.
