GEROM — On-line virtual environment for postgraduate health care education

Technology is rapidly developing therefore educational institutions have to follow that progress and accede to the development of the flexible curriculums, which will be open to global health professionals. Therefore the Faculty of Health sciences together with European partners developed the GEROM on — line gerontological master curriculum which is interdisciplinary focused, supported by modern information communication technology (ICT) and aimed to health professionals to promote the health and well-being of elderly. The backgrounds to this project are demographic changes, technical advances in health care, availability of new pedagogies based on ICT, and pressure from professional bodies which are forcing health care educators to rethink how they construct and implement curricula. The innovative project contribution is the virtual environment for clinical practice, and the whole program implementation is based on adaptive, individualised and personalised blended learning. During the pilot execution students evaluated the program and were satisfied with both content and implementation.
