Active integrated antennas for new RF architectures

Active integrated antennas (AIA) provide a new paradigm for designing modern microwave and millimeter-wave wireless systems. Benefits of this technique include compactness, reduced losses and weight, low profile and multiple functionality. We describe here three novel AIA architectures that have recently been developed, including a tuned-harmonic class F transmitter front-end, power combining with a dual-feed AIA push-pull power amplifier and a novel 2D retrodirective array.
