One of the main driving forces of computer graphics has been the generation of believable images. In the case of human skin, such images can simply result from biophysically inspired simulations, i.e., they can be produced without resorting to sophisticated biophysically based models. For example, the image of a human head depicted in Figure 10.1 was rendered using texture maps and a standard Lambertian model.
