A means for studying mandibular movements.

Abstract A system designed with these four requirements as the primary objectives has been developed. That the last three requirements have been attained is certain, and it can be substantiated by a critical engineering evaluation. As to the first requirement of allowing preconscious chewing, no effort was spared to make the instrument light, compact, and free-working, and the connection of it to the subject's teeth as minimal and accommodating as possible. While the evaluation of this requirement must be a subjective and individual one, initial tests indicate that the requirement has been satisfied.
