How does Involvement in Decision Making Affect Individual Participation in Knowledge Management

This paper highlights the need for an individual-centric approach for the decision making process of organisational knowledge management (KM) practices, to enhance KM effectiveness. Initial interviews with managers helped identify the key constructs in this research. Key constructs were then included in a questionnaire that was administered to employees of a medium sized company. The collected data were analysed with Ordinal Multi Dimensional Scaling (OMDS) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA). The findings show that individuals’ understanding of, and support for KM, is essential for their meaningful participation in KM practices. However, positive attitudes toward KM depend on individuals’ involvement in the decisions made on KM practices.
