AnIntegrated Design Approach forSmallGrid-tied Permanent MagnetWindGenerators

This paper presents adesign approach forapermanent magnet(PM)windgenerator, intended forgrid-tied windenergy system applications. Thegenerator isdirectly coupled toawind turbine andits ACoutput isrectified, thenboosted toasuitable DC voltage level andfinally inverted toACforconnection toagrid. Thispaperpresents an integrated design approach forthese grid-tied PM windgenerators. Theapproach incorporates sizing anddesign procedures forawindturbine andaPM windgenerator inthecontext ofthesystem topology within which they will operate. Thewindgenerator issized andits design optimizedfor thedesired outputvoltage andpoweratthegrid. Furthermore, allthe inefficiencies ofthecomponents between thegenerator andturbine areincluded inthesizing andoptimization processes. A sizing and design procedure fortheturbine isincluded inthedesign process.
