An introduction to CFD code verification including eddy-viscosity models

This paper addresses the method of manufactured solutions for RANS solvers, i.e. in the context of the calculation of incompressible turbulent flows with eddy-viscosity turbulence models. The difficulties caused by damping and/or blending functions included in the turbulence models are discussed. The need to manufacture the turbulence quantities included in the turbulence models is illustrated with an example for the Spalart-Allmaras one-equation model.
