NEIGHBORHOOD SPEED CONTROL - U.S. PRACTICES

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of some of the more common residential speed control techniques being used in the U.S., and where possible, to summarize experiences regarding past effectiveness, costs, and implementation criteria used by other agencies. The devices/techniques reviewed in this paper follow: reduced speed limits; multi-way stop signs; lane markings; traffic chokers; traffic diverters; speed humps; traffic circles; and neighborhood speed watch programs.
