Development of the approaches to UMTS requirements in the CTDMA radio interface

To overcome various potential degradation factors of the mobile cellular radio interface and to enable the maximum possible increase of the most important system parameters-the capacity gain and the spectral efficiency, a set of previously developed specific communication methods and radio interface architecture decisions are discussed. In particular, the joint use of analog pre-processing and digital post-processing of optimized spread spectrum signal formed with the use of acousto-electronic devices, as well as the implementation of the system resource management using acousto-optic devices are considered. Conclusive estimations have shown the potential ability of the proposed advanced radio interface architecture to satisfy the UMTS requirements.
