A New Multi-Server Concept for the MMS Environment

Abstract The standard MMS has treated the case of devices shared by different application processes. MMS specification has put a restriction over the locality of objects which can be manipulated by the MMS services. Each object which has to be accessed by a MMS service must exist in its entirety at the receiver station of this service request. Thus, the current MMS specification is unable to support the real distributed applications. We present a new concept of server for the MMS protocol, i.e. the multi-server concept. Our proposal of multi-server is an extension of the present MMS specification and it has the advantage of being able to manipulate objects distributed over many stations in a computer network environment.
