Stimulation of Efferent Olivocochlear Bundle causes Release from Low Level Masking

PREVIOUS physiological study of the olivocochlear bundle, or bundle of Rasmussen—a major part of the extensive efferent system innervating the cochlea—has provided no convincing evidence of the function of this system. By contrast, behavioural experiments have shown that the crossed component of the olivocochlear bundle (COCB) is involved in the perception of pitch1 and in the discrimination between complex auditory stimuli in the presence of noise2.
