The Investigation into Effect of Dispersion on ECDM-PON System

The effect of the fiber dispersion on the downlink of synchronous electronic code division multiplexing passive optical network (ECDM-PON) is theoretically analyzed and simulated. The simulations indicate that the dispersion in ECDMA-PON will bring the interference into the decoding process. As a result, the transmission distance at 1dB power penalty of ECMD-PON is ~5km shorter than that of traditional time division multiplexing-PON (TDM-PON). Nevertheless the receiver sensitivity of the ECMD-PON will be improved by encoding gain.
