Complexity reduced space ML detection for other-cell interference mitigation in SIMO cellular systems

The use of a space maximum likelihood (S-ML) detection scheme is known to be optimum to mitigate other-cell interference (OCI) near the cell boundary. However, it is not applicable mainly due to implementation complexity. To reduce the implementation complexity, we consider combined use of S-ML detection and minimum-mean-square-error based ordered successive interference cancellation (MMSE-OSIC) in single-input multi-output cellular systems. Instead of exhaustive full search for the S-ML detection, the proposed scheme considers ML metric only for signal vectors of desired and adjacent base stations determined by the MMSE-OSIC. The analytic and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can provide performance almost the same as the S-ML detection scheme near the cell boundary environment, while remarkably reducing the implementation complexity.
