Aerodynamic effect of Polo Helmet — A CFD study

Polo is a long-established sport that was originally a training program for cavalry. This sport is now popular all over the world, and there are more than 80 members state in the Federation of International Polo. Polo is also a fierce outdoor sport. It is characterized by the combination of human and animal abilities to form a unique team-to-team confrontational sport. Horses weighing up to 500 kilograms run at speeds of 55 kilometers per hour (Neumayr & Schmitt, 2019, p. 40), and riders transfer this energy to the ball through their sticks. Because of the inherent characteristics of this sport, athletes are often injured in competitions and training. The injuries related to the head often causes serious consequences. Therefore, sports helmets are essential equipment for polo athletes. Although there are already many helmet products for polo on the market, they do not fully meet people's requirements. The project aims to design a new sports helmet to protect polo players, as well as fulfill other various needs.
