Mechanism on Rehabilitation of Cracks in Reinforced Concrete Using Electrodeposition Technique

An experimental device of electrodeposition method for rehabilitation of cracks in reinforced concrete was designed. Components and patterns of deposits in cracks and crack healing effectiveness were studied in the experiment. Electrodeposition mechanism and polarization reaction were discussed and mechanism of crack healing was proposed. The research indicates that polarization reaction resulting from electric potential difference between electrodes is the cause of electrodeposition. Current density plays an important role on healing effectiveness of concrete cracks. Crack healing mechanism lies in that product produced by cell reaction inducing into nucleation and forming insoluble crystals in cracks, and consequently concrete cracks are densified and healed.
