Specification of posterior midbrain region in zebrafish neuroepithelium

Background: The developing vertebrate nervous system displays a pronounced anterior–posterior (A‐P) pattern, but the mechanism that generates this pattern is poorly understood. We examined through cell‐transplantation experiments, when and how the cells in the zebrafish posterior midbrain acquire regional specificity along the A‐P axis as shown by pax[b] gene expression.
