Accurate finite difference time domain (FD-TD) analysis of arbitrary coaxial shields using the triaxial-cell characterization procedure

This paper discusses the shielding performance of arbitrary coaxial structures. The characterization technique is based upon the concept of transfer impedance and transfer admittance by embedding the coaxial structure in a triaxial set-up. The numerical modeling technique is the finite difference time domain method, allowing an accurate full-wave analysis. In this way, the accuracy and the validity of the commonly used circuit models for the shielding performance can be analyzed. As an example, the performance of some coaxial shields having arbitrary apertures is evaluated up to high frequencies. As an example, one single aperture in the outer shield of a coaxial cable is considered.
