Sensorless Control of Switched Reluctance Motor Using Sliding Mode Observers

A sliding mode observer is developed to estimate the rotor position and speed of switched reluctance motors(SRM) based on inductance model of SRM in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed observer will estimated the rotor position with high resolution when the rotor speed is above 20r/min. To realize senseorless control at all speed range, other two algorithm is proposed to detect turn-on/turn-off instant at near zero speeds and starting moment. Simulink simulation shows that satisfactory results can be obtained at a full speed range.
