Development and Testing of an Assessment Technique Using Problem Based Learning Approach: a Case Study on FTMK Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Course

The purpose of this research is to develop and testing assessment technique using Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach which is a case study on Human Computer lnteraction(HCI) course. There are two forms of assessment are highlighted in PBL which is self and peer assessment. Methods conducted are questionnaire, interview and prototype. The prototype is known as PBLAssess. The study also attempted to describe the respondents· responses on the effects ofPBL on ICT ski lls. The respondents involved in this study are second year FTMK students in lnteractive Media course pursuing Bachelor in Computer Science at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM). It comprises problem so lving questions and students are required to solve them accordingly. The content will focus on structured problem solving technique, collections of real life scenarios, online forum, discussions and web based learning elements to support learning process. The development of PBLAssess is hoped that students to understand the assessment criteria, learn to assess themselves, and learn to assess their fellow students.
