A smoothed Newton-Gauss method with application to bearing-only position location

The paper deals with a modified Newton-Gauss method in which a smoothing parameter is introduced in order to enhance convergence. Two practical algorithms are proposed and tested with application to bearing-only position location. The first algorithm relies on the one-step Newton minimum search, which is used to select a smoothing factor in each Newton-Gauss iteration. In the second, a smoothing factor is suggested as an appropriate function of the number of iterations. >
