A Human-Specific Objective Function for Flux Balance Analysis

Flux Balance Analysis is a constraint-based modeling approach, which is effective in predicting metabolic and cellular phenotypes. However, one of the most significant steps of Flux Balance Analysis is the definition of a proper objective function. Despite of several available objective functions for some species, there is still a challenge to find an accurate human objective function. Here we have studied different biomass compositions available for human metabolic models. It seems that there is not a unique notation for representing human metabolic models. In addition, more attention has been implied on model reconstruction precision than on providing biomass function through metabolites contribution. Our analysis demonstrates that further attempts and a standard schema are needed to be considered for future analysis.
