A Comparison of Three Measures of Journal Status: Influence Weight, Importance Index, and Measure of Standing.

Numerous citation-based measures exist for the study of journal status. Initial articles on these measures typically emphasize their underlying mathematical models and appear in journals not commonly read by information service practitioners. Because convenient access to the computation and application of these measures has not always been considered, these measures are for the most part ignored by the field. In order to enable practitioners and researchers to make more informed, rational decisions on the utility of such measures for journal evaluation, this article attempts to improve access to these three specific citation measures. A subset of library and information science journals is used to illustrate simple computational procedures using the SAS statistical program. Suggestions on interpretation and applications are given
