SHM-PWM applied on single DC source CHB with self-regulation of capacitors voltages

Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverter is conventionally used with separated DC sources. However, the DC sources can be replaced by DC capacitors if the right modulation technique is chosen. In this paper, Selective Harmonic Mitigation (SHM) has been applied on single DC source CHB inverter in order to regulate capacitor voltage inherently and mitigate all harmonic amplitudes below 49th acceptably. The voltage regulation is guaranteed through symmetrical predetermined voltage waveform that SHM equations are defined based on. Some simulation results have been presented to confirm high performance of SHM technique in dealing with harmonic mitigation and acquiring the capacitor voltage balancing in single DC source CHB when it is operated in low switching frequency modulation technique.
