Thermo-bioconvection in a suspension of oxytactic bacteria

Abstract This paper studies thermo-bioconvection, a macroscopic convective motion induced in a fluid layer by the combined effect of density stratification caused by the upswimming of oxytactic microorganisms and heating from below. Both agencies affecting the density are destabilizing; therefore, monotonic instability is expected. Oscillatory instability may be possible in the case of cooling from below.
