Use of Models in Blood Flow Investigation

Abstract Two different models of the blood flow are dealt with in this paper: one model is based on vessel casts, the other is based on angiograms. In both models the threedimensional geometry of the vessel is reconstructed. This geometry is the basis for the subsequent computation of the blood flow. This computation renders the flow in the lumen, but more important, the flow at the vessel wall and thus delivers the wall shear stress. This latter parameter is known to be of great influence for various pathological alterations of the vessel wall.
