Forward Error Correction in Long-Range RFID systems

In this paper the use of forward error correction (FEC) in long-range RFID systems according to the EPCglobal standard is investigated. A model describing the system behavior in the presence of frame-errors is presented and used to evaluate the improvements introduced by the FEC. Additionally the original EPCglobal system and the extended system are compared by means of a computer simulation. The results of the model analysis and of the simulations are presented, demonstrating the achievable improvements.
