Strategic information systems research: a review and research framework

Abstract This paper reviews the theoretical and empirical literature relating to the development process for strategic information systems. Four stages in the development process were identified, and these were used to review the existing literature. Much of the research has concentrated on identifying factors that influence the various stages, and has built on prior information systems research. Research opportunities were identified for all stages of the development process, particularly the need for testing with larger samples, to develop valid instruments, and to study impacts within organizations.
