The value of dynamic complexity in manufacturing systems

This investigation is based on the definitions of value of information related to JIT principles and customer satisfaction. We link these definitions to the notion of dynamic complexity from an information-theoretic point of view. We build upon Shannon's work to measure the value of information and apply our approach to the analysis of case study data. The analysis concentrates on the reasons that cause deviations between schedules and classify them into states of interest. Dynamic complexity is calculated considering the conditional probabilities associated with these states. Some conclusions are derived regarding the questions posed by organisations about the value of dynamic complexity.
