Distribution of Earthworm in Different Block of Gorakhpur District in Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Earthworm population dynamics were studied in different habitats of Gorakhpur district of eastern Uttar Pradesh in different habitats. There was significant difference between density and size of different species of earthworms. The earthworm species Lampito mauritii is the most common species of Gorakhpur district. The Metaphire posthuma, Eutyphoeus nicholsoni, Eutyphoeus incommodus, Eutyphoeus sp. Perionyx sp. were also observed in different localities of Gorakhpur district. The density and size of earthworms were significant in the garden and grassland in respect to agricultural fields. The maximum density was observed in Ataraula locality of Gola block. The high significant size was found in Tajpipara locality of Pipariech block. The soil type like temperature, moisture, pH, total organic carbon (TOC), Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN), C/N ratio, total phosphorus (TP) and total potassium (TK) were also observed. The aim of present study was to assess the diversity and ecology of earthworms in different localities of district Gorakhpur of eastern U.P.
