According to the method, the audio/video terminal acquires audio/video program information and a language type of a target language subtitle and sends the audio/video program information and the language type of the target language subtitle to the audio/video server; when the audio/video server searches the target language subtitle in a subtitle database, the audio/video terminal receives the target language subtitle fed back by the audio/video server; and the audio and video terminal plays the target language subtitle. According to the subtitle display method, the audio and video program information and the target language subtitle are analyzed, and the corresponding subtitle is searched in the subtitle database of the audio/video server according to a user demand; if no corresponding resource is searched, other language subtitles are translated and stored into the database of the server; and if a corresponding resource is searched, the target language subtitle is acquired and played; and therefore, the experience that a user watches audio and video programs is enhanced.
