Adaptive Dissemination of Safety Data Among Vehicles

In-vehicle active safety systems are directed towards reducing the number of accidents or at least alleviating their consequences. One of the key technologies for developing these systems is safety vehicular communication. This paper proposes an adaptive approach to dissemination of safety data among vehicles. This data is then used by systems in vehicles for identifying hazards in traffic and reacting to them. We propose a proactive protocol that makes use of contextual information for adapting the communication to the specifics of the traffic situation. Communication performance is investigated via simulations and indicates that efficient vehicular communication can be provided by the proposed protocol
