Folded dipoles printed antenna configuration and consideration for PC card applications

A quarter-wavelength diversity dipole configuration for a 2.4 GHz ISM band PC card application is reported. The structure is based on double-layer dipoles with a successive resonance. The dipoles are printed on a first layer and coupled to feeding lines on another layer to achieve the required space diversity with an easy matching to 50 Ω and high cross polarization within a given maximum space of 30 mm×50 mm. Classical measured antenna performances are shown, as well as a solution to cope with the implementation of the antenna in a PC card format. Measurement results are shown. This antenna system has been incorporated in a high-speed wireless LAN PC card system. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 18: 351–354, 1998.
