Multidimensional Optimal Control of wind Turbine Generator

Small differences in wind speed can lead to great differences in energy capture. Wind speed, direction and inflow angle vary with time and terrain, and power system operation requires well predicted wind-power output from wind farms. Current wind turbines are limited by the fact that the turbine's rotor angle is fixed with respect to wind inflow angle. In order to enhance energy capture from wind turbines a multi-dimensional approach is proposed in which both rotor yaw angle and rotor angular deflection are controlled to achieve the optimal power rating for a wind turbine. A Mat lab simulation and a physical model were made to support the validity of this approach. The results from both the simulation and experimental setup indicate that the multi-dimensional approach towards optimal control increases power output by 15% as compared with fixed turbine's rotor angle.
