USABILITY CHALLENGES IN UBICOMP ENVIRONMENT

As computing paradigm shifts from desktop computing to ubiquitous computing, usability engineering community is facing new challenges. While usability is still valuable in ubicomp, many usability evaluation methods and frameworks that have been standardized and widely accepted in traditional desktop computing environment are no more suitable for this new paradigm. The need for new usability strategy appropriate to ubicomp environment is rapidly growing. This paper presents key issues of traditional usability framework when applied to ubiquitous computing environment and new factors that need to be considered in assessing ubicomp application. A number of case reports published are being introduced focused on the methods they used and their findings.
