Introduction In the last fifteen years the results obtained in corneal grafting have improved considerably. Without doubt the development of better techniques in surgery and instrumentation is responsible for a great part of this advancement. However, increasing knowledge concerning the conditions of the graft, the selection, the preservation and vitality of the donor material as well as the study of the biological processes that occur between graft and host after transplantation have also played a fundamental role.
