Determination of physiologic rest position by electronic measurement.

Abstract A means of determining the vertical dimension of physiologic rest position has been described. The method is based upon the principle that oral physiology permits the patient to automatically seek his mandibular rest position between acts of swallowing and to maintain this mandibular position during the greater portion of any given time period. By placing an electronic device employing the principle of a rheostat between the jaws, the precise point of the vertical dimension of physiologic rest position may be determined by correlation with readings on an ammeter.
