Multidisciplinary design tools for VCSEL devices and compact electronic packages

A comprehensive open environment is being developed for multi-disciplinary, multi-scale design of VCSEL devices and packages. Novel concepts of arbitrary mesh interfaces and overset Chimera grids are being developed for easy model construction and multi-scale coupling simulations. Interfaces to optical tools are also facilitated for monolithic optical and optical fiber coupling. As an example, the simulation environment has been demonstrated for analysis of thermal crosstalk in a compact proton-implanted VCSEL array package.
