THEORY OF SHIP COLLISION AGAINST BRIDGE PIERS

The paper outlines methods to calculate the energies and impact forces occurring during the collision of a ship with a bridge pier. A rational design of pier protections and/or the required strength of a pier itself is thus facilitated. (Author/TRRL)
