A Study on Performance Evaluation Method of MIMO Antennas in Multipath Propagation Environments

A theoretical formulas for evaluating the performance of MIMO antennas in multipath propagation environments in which the angular density functions for vertically and horizontally polarized waves and average cross polarization power ratio (XPR) are considered. This formulas are based on Kronecker model and i.i.d. channel model, but the SISO transmission performance of the isotropic antenna is used for the normalized factor of covariance matrix of MIMO channel, so that the mean effective gain (MEG: isotropic gain) is reflected on the eigen values, and transmission capacity can be evaluated on the basis of the isotropic antenna. It is also possible to evaluate MIMO channel performance for both base and mobile station antennas even if the angular density functions are adequately selected. This paper shows the theoretically predicted results of a 2×2 MIMO antenna composed with half wavelength dipole antennas at a mobile station and its dependency on propagation parameters.
