Evaluation of Reliability for Primary Equipment in Ge-Nan HVDC Transmission Project

Many years of operation and maintenance experiences have indicated that it is the basis for HVDC transmission projects to realize the goal of reliability,availability,maintainability(RAM)through improving the performance of insulation system for the primary equipment.As a first commercial HVDC transmission project in China,Ge-Nan HVDC transmission project has been already put into service for nearly twenty years.Based on report of 04 working group with CIGRE Study Committee 14-DC Links and related stipulations in IEEE Std 1240-2000,the comparison of evaluation for the reliability of primary equipment has been analysed,which indicated that the availability and utilization of pole 1,pole 2 and bi-pole equipment in Ge-Nan project haven been significantly enhanced after retrofitting insulation system of primary equipment.
