Computerized Tomography in the Clinical Practice of Epilepsy

There are opinions that it will be unnecessary to utilize computerized tomography (CT for abbreviation) in the clinical practice of epilepsy which is essentially the manifestations of functional disturbances of the brain, but we feel it necessary to analyze the clinical seizure patterns and to interpret the electroencephalography. So far as we regard epilepsy as a phenomenon, the opinion described above will be reasonable. On the other hand, however, since the epileptic phenomena are the manifestations of functionally disturbed brain, they could be also the manifestations of morphologically damaged brain. In fact, we had detected miscellaneous epileptogenic lesions with conventional neuroradiological tools and attempted to surgically cure them. Plain craniography, pneumoencephalography, cerebral angiography and radioisotope studies have provided us with a rich up-to-date source of information about the pathology underlying epilepsy and/or epileptic phenomena. However, the information obtained from the conventional neuroradiology still
